Award-winning J/99 @ Paris Boat Show!

J/99 sailing offshore doublehanded

J/Composites Celebrates 25 Years!
(Paris, France)- The 2019 edition of the Salon Nautique Paris will be taking place on the southside of Paris in its usual location at the Parc d'Exposition from December 7th to 15th.  The J/Composites team from Les Sables d'Olonne, France will be in attendance with the award-winning J/99 shorthanded offshore speedster at Pavillon 1, Stand 1-G-64.  For Salon Nautique Paris boat show information

Since its debut one year ago, the J/99 has been critically acclaimed by many of the world's leading sailboat analysts as an exciting new entry into the mid-size offshore cruiser-racer marketplace, with a focus on offering an exceptional experience for those focused on short-handed sailing- doublehanded offshore or a family wishing for a fun, fast, easy-to-sail, weekday evening "beer can" racer.  The J/99's pedigree is without peer and her performance is enough to get anyone out for a spontaneous sunset sail with family and friends in comfort and style.  For more J/99 offshore shorthanded speedster sailing information

J/Composites teamJ/Composites Celebrates 25 Years!
J/Boats is pleased to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the J/Composites and J/Boats partnership with a truly great group of yacht builders and dedicated sailors. The journey with J/Composites (based in Les Sables d’Olonne, France) began with the J/92 in 1994, quickly followed by the J/80 the following year. Before long, hundreds of J/Composites built J’s were sailing in dozens of countries across Europe, and the foundation was firmly laid that would lead to building the full-line of J/Models from 22’ to 43’ and a successful 25+ year relationship together.

An important turning point came in 2001 with the launch of the J/109- the first new "J" design to be tooled, developed and launched outside of the USA. The success of this model opened the door to new collaborations between J/Boats designer Alan Johnstone and Didier LeMoal, President of J/Composites, including the development of the J/97, J/122, the E series of racing/cruising yachts (J/97E, J/112E, J/122E) and most recently- the award-winning J/99.

In addition to other models like the J/88, J/92s, J/100, J/105, J/110, J/120 and J/133, J/Composites has successfully built and helped promote and grow the most active keelboat one-design classes sailing in Europe today, including the International J/70, International J/80, and International J/111.

Congratulations to Didier LeMoal, Fred Bouvier and the entire J/Composites staff for 25 years of great work! Add to Flipboard Magazine.

Salon Nautique/ Paris Boat Show - J/112E!

J/112E cruising interior
This Gorgeous “Living Room” Can Surf To 18+ kts??
(Paris, France)- On display at the Salon Nautique/ Paris Boat Show from December 2nd to 10th is the fabulous new 36 footer from the J/Design team- the J/112E Sport Cruiser.  The show takes place at the Parc de Exposition at Port de Versailles, Paris and the 112E will be on display at Pavilion 1/ Stand J/112E sport cruiser- Sailing World Best Crossover cruiser1-G-355.

The J/112E was presented with SAIL Magazine’s Best Boat Award in the “Best Performance Boat Over 30 ft” category in 2017.  And, she was also presented with the SAILING WORLD Boat of the Year Award for "Best Crossover" cruiser-racer.  She is the latest addition to the J/Boats “E” Series of versatile performance sailing yachts. And, her racing record in 2017 was impressive, including an emphatic win of IRC 1 Class at the famous Hamble Winter Series over outright IRC rule-bending machines, not bad for a well-outfitted sport cruiser like you see in the photo here!

A welcome 36 feet in length, she features a spacious two-cabin accommodation plan and a comfortable, ergonomic cockpit. The J/112E is as well suited for the annual family cruise as she is racing in the local club regatta or short-handing through rough weather.  Take the opportunity to view this gorgeous sailing yacht in Paris!  For more Salon Nautique/ Paris Boat Show information   Read more about SAIL magazine’s J/112E review in the Best Boats 2017 article here.   Read more about the J/112E Sport Cruiser here Add to Flipboard Magazine.

The NEW J/112E @ Paris Show

J/112E at sunset
(Paris, France)- The new J/112E sport cruiser will be featured at this year’s Salon Nautique at the Parc d’Exposition on the south side of Paris.  This will be the innovative design’s debut in continental Europe. The 112E has received tremendous praise for it’s unique set of features- a refined Scandinavian-style interior of warm woods and beautiful natural light from the expansive windows and hatches; enormous cockpit for entertaining with seats long enough to sleep on; and an evolutionary hull and blades design developed from the famous line of J speedsters.  The combination makes for an exciting sports cruiser that is streets ahead of its contemporaries in the 34-37 foot cruising range.

J/112E sailing upwindThe 112E is a joy to sail.  Here is the “first sail” report from her designer, Al Johnstone: “It’s hard to put in words just how wonderful the past three weeks have been sailing the new J/112E.  She’s everything we hoped she’d be and more.  We had ideal testing conditions- a combination of light/medium southerlies and cold blasts out of the north, along with a scenic backdrop of fall colors and a virtually empty Narragansett Bay to ourselves.  And, it all went by so fast.

J/112E #2 arrived at International Marine on October 29th fresh off the ship from J/Composites in France.  It was an immediate beehive of activity as Jorge Borges and his team expertly off-loaded the boat.  His team was so efficient; they barely spoke as they orchestrated a very familiar routine- installation of the keel, rudder and steering system.

Less than 20 hours later the 112E was delivered to Stanley’s Boatyard and launched.  After stepping the mast and rigging the sails, the boat was ready-to-roll in a mere 2.5 hours from launching! The unbelievably smooth and near glitch-free commissioning is a tribute to Hall Spars (shrouds perfect), Doyle Sails (they all fit), and Didier LeMoal’s J/Composites build team.  It would also foreshadow how well the J/112E would perform in the days to come.

Chicago J/112E owner sailing on Narragansett BayThe new owner from Chicago arrived just as we were finishing up final details.  It was a great moment to see the joy in the owner’s face; especially since he was anxiously waiting for nearly a year to see what she was like in the flesh.  I don’t think he ever stopped smiling.  His wonderful first impression would soon be echoed by every person who would subsequently boarded the J/112E.  Most would immediately comment on the size of the cockpit, the width of the side-decks, the great footing along the toe-rail, the elevated steering platform (for all size drivers), the efficient mainsheet set-up, the protected cockpit seating– and, that was before discovering the roomy, stylish, brightly-lit interior.

We powered out from Stanley’s, snaking through the narrow Warren River channel into open waters on the bay.  It was immediately apparent the 112E responds confidently to the deep, high-aspect rudder and wheel combination.  At 2800 RPM and flat water, we charged along at over 7.0 knots. The floor step-up detail on the centerline in the cockpit gives great visibility over the cabin and leverage over the large wheel; perfect for motor-sailing!

As we cleared the last green channel marker, we raised the mainsail in 10-12 knots of wind and set off on a beam reach. The boat accelerated quickly under main only with just a touch of weather helm.  It was a balanced, light feel. The boat slipped along very quietly, with minimal turbulence off the transom.  We continued along under main-only, trading off turns steering.  With the owner happily driving, the smile on his face was priceless.  We then unfurled the 105% jib and went into overdrive!

We hardened up on the wind to see how she would perform.  Between our five iPhones and the Navionics apps, we confirmed an easy 7+ knots with only two sitting on the windward rail.  It was NW 10-14 kts and just enough chop to get a sense for the boat’s smooth, responsive motion and very solid feel. With only a limited window to sail, we cracked off sheets under main and jib and headed towards the channel entrance; quickly surging to over 9 kts before stowing the sails and powering back into the harbor.

Once back at Stanley’s docks, we parted ways with the happy owner, who drove off to the airport for the flight back to Chicago.  Afterwards, we relaxed in the cockpit until sunset, popped a few ‘greenies’ to celebrate the first sail, and reflected on how much effort had gone into creation of the J/112E, how thankful we were for everyone’s support, and how we couldn’t wait to go sailing the next day!”  To learn more about the J/112E, please visit here.

Brezellec J/80 Coupe de France Champion- Four-peat!

Interface Concept 2- Eric Brezellec sailing upwind(Paris, France)- The year long series known as the Coupe de France is comprised of eight regattas and the four best scores are selected for each team; the series starts with SPI Ouest France Regatta in April and ends with the J/80 Nationals in November!  It’s a tough series since virtually all top French J/80 teams (over 250 teams!!) participate in events that range from sailing on the rough waters of the Channel on the northern coastline, to the classic racing in the Bay of Biscay and, of course, the often spectacular sailing in places like Marseille down in the warm, azure waters of the Mediterranean.  It’s quite a feat for any team to consistently finish in the top five in this series with some of the world’s best J/80 sailors.

J/80 Interface Concept II sailing upwind off FranceRemarkably, taking a “four-peat” was none other than Eric Brezellec on INTERFACE CONCEPT I, a perennial championship team that also had a great performance at this year’s J/80 Worlds in Marseilles.  Brezellec was followed by fellow colleague Simon Moriceau on INTERFACE CONCEPT 2!  Not too surprisingly, Luc Nadal’s team on GAN’JA took the final place on the podium.  Note that two of the three teams counted for their classification in the Coupe de France their top placings in the 2013 World Championships sailed this year in Marseilles, France— a big “congratulations” to Luc Nadal and Eric Brezellec for their consistency!

The top women’s crew for 2013 Coupe de France was FRA 6001 “THIERRY REAL ESTATE- PAYS DE LOIRE” skippered by Catherine Lepensant.

Note- for those J/80 sailors who may be traveling in Paris or France, the French J/80 Class will hold their AGM and Coupe de France 2013 Awards at the end of the Paris Boat Show on 14th December.  For more J/80 French class sailing and awards information

J/122-E & J/70 @ Paris Sailboat Show!

J/122 E cruiser racer sailboat (Paris, France)- The Salon Nautique de Paris is running from the 7th to 15th of December, perhaps one of the world’s most spectacular and fashionable boat shows.  Starring in this year’s show will be the gorgeous new “queen” of the J/Fleet, the Euro-styled J/122-E.  With its rakish windows, massive hull ports and stylish interior, the J/122-E will be sure to turn heads and generate enormous enthusiasm by J/Cognoscenti!

Joining her will be the wildly successful International J/70 one-design speedster.  Interest will surely be high amongst European sailors for this fun new “sporty” because of its recent granting of “international status” by ISAF; becoming the one- design keelboat of choice for Lake Constance (bordering Germany, Switzerland & Austria) and its 55 yacht & sailing clubs; and the establishment of the J/70 Worlds in Newport and the J/70 Europeans on Lago di Garda, Italy!

Please visit J/Composites to see the latest innovations from the J/Design Team at Hall 1, Stand G-42!
